Genesis 1:17
וַיִּתֵּן אֹתָם אֱלֹהִים בִּרְקִיעַ הַשָּׁמָיִם לְהָאִיר עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, NASB
And God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to shed light upon the earth. Traditional Jewish Translation
5414 –וַיִּתֵּן– vayathan – to give, (put, make, etc.)
852 – 855 –אֹתָם– ath – A portent, (derived from 226) a sense of entity, prop. Self, used to point out more def. the object of a verb. Nearness, near; hence gen. with, by at, among, etc. a hoe or other digging implement.
430 – אֱלֹהִים - Elohim – Magistrates
7549 -בִּרְקִיעַ- bareqiya - extended surface (solid), expanse, firmament
a. expanse (flat as base, support)
b. firmament (of vault of heaven supporting waters above)
8064 -הַשָּׁמָיִם– hashamayim - to be lofty, the sky, aloft.

And the Magistrates put them in the expanse of the lofty sky to illuminate the earth.
